Saffron Clark

Transgender writer, director and performer, Saffron trained at LAMDA.

In 1988, she established theatre works, a company committed to developing and producing original writing, within which she founded and was the Artistic Director of the theatre works theatre Festival, a showcase for original, regional writing.

A writer herself, Saffron’s first play: “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Conservative” received The Guardian Critic’s Choice at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1991.

Saffron has performed professionally in a number of productions – both for her own companies: “walking the TIE” ( a theatre in education touring company}; “theatre works” and the “Lincoln Shakespeare Company” ( a regional touring company) as well as “Charles Vance Productions”, Ian Dickens Productions” and “Kevin Wood Pantomimes”,

She founded – in 1999 – with Carl Antony Plover, a media company: “Burning Paper Productions”, producing some short films and developing scripts for television which, unfortunately, did not see the light of day. After a reasonable hiatus, within which both Carl and Saffron became parents, they returned to working with each other on a number of play projects, culminating in the establishment of their comedy double act: “Two Corpses with Hard Ons”

Within the hiatus described above, Saffron established, with her brother and fellow film maker Oliver Clark, the “Award Winning Clark Bros”, a company that has produced the series “Really, Really Really Good Show” a web series about web series, whilst working on the development of a number of projects, one of which was awarded the Dublin Web Fest’s, Best Original Script, whilst another is in post production: “Room to Roam” – a feature length film set in a hotel room. She also used this time to write a novel for children:  “The Bott Twins: Birth, Death and Other Jokes” which is due to be published this year.

In 2019, Oliver Clark, Carl Plover and Saffron Clark – with fellow film maker Markus Husgen – decided to combine their creative talents within one company: Parasol Productions, which is where a new chapter, or paragraph, begins..
